“Open the door with the hand carved Heart. Cross the discreet gravel courtyard. Scale the vast limestone hand carved stairwell and push open the double doors and you are invited into a very different, highly intimate Paris.”
DESCRIPTION
How many times do we gaze up at a glittering window in the city of light and wonder what and who dwells within? The formal gravel courtyards we only ever glimpse for a moment. The heavy silk curtains drawn at dusk, the glow of a damask lamp being lit for dinner. These are the private realms that only residents of Paris enjoy, until of course one takes up residence.
The tantalizing promise of Vosges Royal is to live in the most historically rich and culturally relevant address in Paris as your own very considered and very comfortable home. To wake in a silk canopied bed gazing over the slate rooftops and mature Linden trees of the most famous 16th Century square in Paris and then walk on hand loomed carpets from your library to the winter salon, from the winter salon to the Salon D’Ete sipping tea from a gold rimmed fine china cup. Or to immerse yourself in wonderment as you study the rare original Plan de Paris by Etienne Turgot (1739) one of the worlds most ambitious and beautiful works of urban cartography whilst listening to a little jazz discreetly wafting in on a state of the art sound system?
Decorated by the legendary stylist and designer Jacques Grange, the grande apartment pivots on small but discreetly luxurious details from a coffee table crafted from an ancient gate to a chandelier that rests upon the floor of a beautiful hallway, as if a nervous courtesan could not quite decide where to hang it.
If these rooms have a subtly sensual air perhaps they bear the griffe (mark) of their original owner for the apartment Marie Touchet, the sole mistress and grand courtesan to Charles the IV and mother of his only living heir. It’s an idea that gives weight to choosing this magical space as the realm of your ultimate tryst or perhaps leaning on a silk chair as you casually propose. The beauty of it all is that this is your entrée to the City of Love, delightfully enjoyed from the inner circle.A most opulent private residence Vosges Royal has been designed in a very French style: mixing whimsy (yes more chandeliers) with practicalities (yes, three bathrooms) and many bespoke pieces of furniture. Each of the three beautifully conceived bedrooms features the softest fine Egyptian linens, and a chic mix of ancient bibelot and contemporary detail.
A grand private residence that offers the luxury of space with sensual intimacy, the rooms expand and contract to fit the occasion. For a romantic weekend one might simply engage the main floor: with a lovely soaring ceilinged salon, a quietly sexy silk lined bedroom with ensuite bathroom, a library and sunlit kitchen.
For a family, or additional tempted guests, two more suites are situated on a mezzanine level off the imposing Salon d ‘hiver ensuring space and total privacy for all. The “Chambre de Monsieur “ overlooks the courtyard and has a queen bed with a marble shower ensuite. The “ Chambre des Enfants “ is charming and romantic with two single beds for younger guests or converged as two to form a king for another couple.
This apartment is not suitable for children under the age of 8.PLEASE NOTE: Price based on 1 bedroom occupancy
LOCATION
Probably one of the best address in town. Located on the Place des Vosges in the historical heart of the Marais district, this Historical Ultra Luxury apartment has it all.
The fantasy of living like a king, or rather a very famous fashion designer for a week or longer, is a rather practical temptation at Vosges Royal. So much nearby can be enjoyed simply and on foot in a concentrated and beautifully intimate ‘quartier’ of small museums, fine boutiques, quality restaurants and deliciously traditional cafes.
The Marais is laid back in its elegance, because so much of it is encased like a jewel behind closed doors. The beauty of taking up residence is that one can return ‘home’ with fresh flowers, a warm baguette, hand bound books and a lovely new dress and then gaze quietly over the most poetic square in all Europe. To take Paris in, in private, perhaps that is the most coveted luxury of all.
The oldest district in beautiful Paris, the Marais is an eclectic mix of restaurants old and new, art galleries, fashion ateliers, trendy new bars and the Jewish quartier.
For visitors who wish to explore Paris on foot, this is an excellent point from which to do so, for the marvellous Marais district includes the Picasso Museum, Carnavalet Museum, Hotel de Ville and of course the Louvre. Notre Dame and the Ile St Louis are just 10mn away on foot.
